Bandarawela is the second largest city in Badulla District which is 30km away from Badulla city. It is located on the western part of the Uva Province on the eastern slopes of central hills of Sri Lanka. It has very cool climate condition than the other areas in the Uva Province except Haputale. Bandarawela town located in 200km away from Colombo and can be reach by bus or train. If you are choosing main road to reach Bandarawela you could reach there with in 5 hours from Colombo. There are 150 km form Bandarawela to Kandy (The second largest city on Sri Lanka). Bandarawele surrounded with beautiful tea plantations which cultivated in British Colonial times. Bandarawela is major Ceylon Tea production area since colonial times.
A high plateau, 7000 ft above sea level in the central hills, containing much endemic flora & fauna. It is the origin of many waterfalls and rivers including the Mahaweli.
Ravana Ella Waterfall
The stream, a tributary of kirindi Oya plunges with a foaming spray over a series of ledges into the valley close to the road. This is also associated with the romantic legend of Rama & Sitha narrated in the ancient Indian epic poem,Ramayana. According to folklore, King Rawana of Sri Lanka had hidden the beautiful princess Sitha whom he abducted after defeating her husband prince Rama
Dunhinda Waterfall
The biggest fall of the Badulu Oya with a height of 58 meters( 190ft) roaring down from the Rockledge in clouds of foam into a broad pond holed in the rocks. The distance from the main road is about 1 Km.
