When it comes to Indian Wildlife the creatures that immediately spring to mind are the Big Cats – the majesty of the Royal Bengal Tiger and the stealth of the Leopard. These images have been lodged in our minds through the imagery associated with the vahan (chariot/conveyor) of the Hindu Goddess Durga, the fame of Rudyard Kipling’s “Jungle Book”, and the natural, rugged beauty of the Central Indian Highlands, from which masterful authors have drawn imaginative inspiration for centuries. India is renowned worldwide for conserving the largest wild population of Tigers. Kanha Tiger Reserve in Madhya Pradesh is one such place that has painstakingly protected its flora and fauna, and annually draws thousands of visitors to its sanctuary of Sal & bamboo jungles to view Tigers, Barasingha and the other mezmerising fauna species.
