Uttarkashi is famous for being the source of the main Two rivers of North India. Apart from its geographical relevance it is of tremendous significance for the thousands of people who visit these places out of faith. There are also trek groups who undertake trips to these places for adventure.
Har Ki Doon is a very popular place among trekkers. The best way to reach this place is from Mussoorie through Yamuna Bridge, Naugaon, Purola, Saur, Sankri, Taluka and Osla. Har Ki Doon has bungalows as well as rest houses for trekkers, located at an altitude of 3506 m. The trek passes through thick forests and mountainous surroundings.
Dodital
Dodital is situated at a height of 3307 m. The attraction of this lake is its crystal clear water surrounded by dense forests. Fishing can be done here with permits from the Divisional Forest Officer of Uttarkashi. Himalayan trouts are found here in abundance.
Gangotri Temple
The temple of Gangotri is located at a height of 3200 m above sea level. It is 100 km from Uttarkashi and was established in the 18th century by General Amar Singh Thapa, on the banks of the Bhagirathi. It is very popular among pilgrims.
